Course Code: PWRT 5000

Academic Year: 2017-2018

This foundational course introduces core professional writing skills by identifying and assessing grammatical and composition proficiencies that students have already developed in their bachelor's degrees, and then guiding students through the ways in which professional writing departs from academic writing in tone and form. The course helps writers develop and discover voice, tone and style. The course introduces students to new concepts such as audience analysis and professional writing forms that they will use in an editorial workplace. Additionally, this course guides students through weekly critical reading of media and analysis of outlets in order to increase their awareness of the media landscape.
