The Core Mathematics course is designed to give students a grounding in varied aspects of Mathematics, including numeric and algebraic operations; measurement and geometry; collecting, displaying and analysing data; mathematical relationships; statistics and probability; and simple and compound interest.

Core Mathematics provides students with the mathematical foundation they need in order to move on to the other ACE Mathematics courses: Apprenticeship, Technical and Business Mathematics. The course serves as the MCTU’s acknowledged equivalent of Mathematics for Work and Everyday Life, Grade 12, Workplace Preparation MEL4E.

*A student is exempt from taking ACE Core Math only if he/she has the equivalent math or more (school board or Academic Upgrading) math within the past 10 years with a 70% mark or better. Students must fax their high school or college transcript to Arlene Cronin at arlene.ace@gmail.com for approval.

This course is designed to increase comprehension and performance of mathematical operations and to involve the student in the application of business mathematical techniques. The material covered includes the study of arithmetic and geometric sequences and series; simple and compound interest; annuities; exponential growth; retail mathematics; data analysis - collecting, organizing, and analyzing data; self-study and the application of learned skills to numerous problems; developing student skills in handling business mathematical problems. This course is equivalent to Foundations for College Mathematics, Grade 12, College Preparation MAP4C.

Throughout the ACE Biology course, students will learn to employ a disciplined approach to the processes of biology including scientific inquiry, problem solving and design. Students will apply biology concepts and principles in such areas as the study of cells, microbiology, human anatomy and physiology, plant structure and physiology and environmental science as well as select and use appropriate numeric, symbolic, graphical and linguistic modes to represent and communicate scientific concepts and experimental results. Learners will demonstrate skills in retrieving and evaluating information pertaining to biological ideas. ACE Biology also has a component where students can assess career choices in science and technology.

The ACE Biology College Preparation course is intended for those students who have not completed the biology prerequisite for admission to specific college programs (for example: nursing, paramedic, radiology, etc.) and as an optional course credit toward the ACE Certificate. The course serves as the MCTU’s acknowledged equivalent of Biology, Grade 11, SBI3C.

This Chemistry course provides learners with a strong knowledge of chemistry as it applies to health and environmental issues. Emphasis is given to analyzing problems, performing virtual laboratory exercises, and communicating scientific information effectively. The content of the course reflects the needs of many adult learners entering postsecondary college programs in health and environmental sciences.

The content of the course reflects the needs of many adult learners entering post-secondary college programs in health, environmental, and animal sciences, and others that require chemistry as an admissions pre-requisite. The course serves as the MCTU’s acknowledged equivalent of Chemistry, Grade 12, College Preparation SCH4C, SCH3U.

This course provides students with the opportunity for in-depth study of the concepts and processes that occur in biological systems. Students will study the theory (and conduct investigations) in the areas of biochemistry, metabolic processes, molecular genetics, homeostasis and population dynamics. Emphasis will be placed on the achievement of detailed knowledge and refinement of (communication) skills needed for further study in various branches of the life sciences and related fields.

Note: This course was developed using the course description from the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum policy document and has been evaluated as equivalent to the comparable OSSD course SBI4U.

U-Stream Biology is designed to prepare students to succeed in postsecondary programs requiring U-stream courses. (SBI4U). The course is 120 hours in length. A textbook is required. This course is available only on a fee-paying basis. There are no prerequisites for this course.

This course enables students to deepen their understanding of chemistry through the study of organic chemistry, the structure and properties of matter, energy changes and rates of reaction, equilibrium in chemical systems and electrochemistry. Students will further develop their problem-solving and investigation skills as they investigate chemical processes, and will refine their ability to communicate scientific information.  Emphasis will be placed on the importance of chemistry in everyday life and on evaluating the impact of chemical technology on the environment.

Note: This course was developed using the course description from the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum policy document and has been evaluated as equivalent to the comparable OSSD course SCH4U.

U-Stream Chemistry is designed to prepare students to succeed in postsecondary programs requiring U-stream courses.(SCH4U). The course is 120 hours in length. A textbook is required. This course is available only on a fee-paying basis. The prerequisites are ACE Core Math*, or ACE Business Math, Grade 12 Math and ACE Chemistry or Grade 11 University Preparation (SCH3U).

For fee-paying students, it is recommended, but not required, that you take the Learn to Learn online course before you begin any ACE online classes. This course will help you prepare for the online learning experience.
