WRIT & ESOL Upgrading

The Upgrading program, run through the Writing Centre, is a full-semester course for students who were not successful in their first semester WRIT 100, WRIT 120, or ESOL 100 course. Students must be recommended by their professor for Upgrading.

Successful completion of WRIT  150 or ESOL 150 meets the prerequisite requirement for entry into WRIT 200, WRIT 220, or ESOL 200. 

At the beginning of the semester, students should go to the Writing Centre to schedule weekly appointments. Each week, students meet with their tutor to review the content of their first semester WRIT / ESOL course. After attending all tutorial sessions and successfully completing the assignments, students are eligible to write the final exam for either WRIT/ESOL 150.

WRIT 150

WRIT 150, taken through the Writing Centre, is a full-term course for WRIT 100 or WRIT 120 students who were recommended by their professor and who were not successful in either WRIT 100 or WRIT 120.

Successful completion of WRIT 100 or WRIT 120 meets the prerequisite requirement for entry into WRIT 200 / 220.

At the beginning of the semester, students schedule weekly appointments in the Writing Centre. Each week, students meet with their tutor to discuss the structure, content, and grammar of their writing assignments.

It is mandatory to keep weekly upgrading appointments and complete the assignments by the deadlines. Students who miss more than one appointment or deadline may not be allowed to continue in the program. After attending all tutorial sessions and successfully completing the assignments, students are eligible to take a new version of the final exam. Humber students should refer to their Blackboard site for the specific WRIT 150 Study Guide.

ESOL 150

ESOL 150, run through the Writing Centre, is a full-semester course for students who were not successful in their first semester ESOL 100, ESOL 120. Students must be recommended by their professor for Upgrading.

Successful completion of ESOL 150 meets the prerequisite requirement for entry into ESOL 200, ESOL 220.

At the beginning of the semester, students should go to the Writing Centre to schedule weekly appointments. Each week, students meet with their tutor to review the content of their first semester WRIT / ESOL course. After attending all tutorial sessions and successfully completing the assignments, students are eligible to retake the final exam for their first semester WRIT / ESOL course.

PLEASE NOTE: To continue in the Upgrading program and retake the final exam, students must keep weekly tutoring appointments and complete all assignments by the deadlines.
