Work-Integrated Learning

Humber programs offer unique work-integrated learning opportunities to prepare students for their future careers. Students apply what they’ve learned in class and in real world environments through a wide range of academic, community and industry partnerships. These work-integrated and experiential learning opportunities may include field placements, practicums, clinical placements, co-operative education work terms, internships, applied research projects, or service learning. Check program pages to learn more about the specific opportunities within each program.

Experiential Learning

Experiential learning helps you gain new knowledge, skills and abilities by deliberately applying your learning in a workplace setting. Experiential learning opportunities are based on clearly defined learning outcomes. Participating in experiential learning activities can have a positive impact on your academic and professional careers. Benefits include:

  • Gaining relevant work experience while earning course credit
  • Applying classroom learning to the workplace, with the support of expert faculty
  • Strengthening transferable skills, such as time management, teamwork, and interpersonal communications, for immediate application in future studies or careers
  • Building self-marketing skills and job acquisition strategies
  • Establishing professional networks
  • Exploring careers options and/or confirming career direction

Work Placements

Work Integrated Learning provides a valuable bridge between a student’s academic education and the real world. On-the-job experience is one of the most effective ways for students to practice the skills they have acquired in the classroom, and it also helps students develop confidence in their field. For employers, students provide extra help and fresh, innovative thinking to industry. We are here to help you make the connection.

Work Placement Benefits:

  • Valuable real-world learning and enhanced employment opportunities
  • Smoother transitions from academia to paid employment
  • Potential for higher salaries and higher levels of job satisfaction when entering the workforce
