Program Overview

French is becoming more in demand both in Canada and around the world. In order to meet this growing need and give students an opportunity to work towards proficiency in French, Humber offers three six-course certificate programs: French Language Certificate (in-class), Everyday French Language Certificate (online) and Professional French Language Certificate (online).

Students registered in Humber’s French Language certificate program have the option of moving between the in-class and online classes to complete their French studies at Humber. The Everyday French Language certificate program offers six levels completely online. This provides you with the flexibility to complete a French Language certificate either in class, online or using a combination of both.

Students looking to earn the French Language Certificate begin their studies at their appropriate level rather than having to start at the beginner level.  However, students must complete at least levels 5 and 6 to receive any of the French Language certificates.

Please note: Courses in the French Language Certificates do not qualify for General Education credit.

Additional Information

French Language Placement Test
This placement test was designed to help you informally assess your French language proficiency to gain a better idea of which course to begin your French studies at Humber. An in-class assessment will take place on the first night of the course to ensure proper placement.

If you have no previous French language experience, you are welcome to take the test but should register into French 1. The placement test focuses on knowledge of basic grammatical structures; it does not evaluate oral and written skills. The placement test contains 50 multiple choice questions. It is recommended that you do the test without the use of any study aids to obtain a more accurate result. Take the French placement test now.

Intensive French Language Program

Students can now choose to complete French 1 & 2, French 3 & 4, or French 5 & 6 in the same semester. Classes will meet for six hours per week for 15 weeks (two nights per week). This intensive stream will allow students the opportunity to complete the French Language Certificate in one year rather than two when starting at Level 1.

For students interested in the intensive program, you do not need to register and pay for both classes at the same time, you can register and pay for the second class when it begins.
