Program Overview

This is one of the few Pre-Health Pathway programs in the Ontario College sector where students have the opportunity to gain science lab experience. If you are interested in pursuing a career in the health-care sector and you would like the opportunity to explore your options while developing the skills that are necessary for post-secondary success, then this is the program for you. In the Pre-Health program you will strengthen your science, writing and math skills while exploring and preparing you for career paths in biotechnology, pharmacy technician, registered or practical nursing, Chinese medicine, paramedicine, to name a few. 

In this program you will:  

  • build the foundational skills necessary for success in the health sciences field including math, critical thinking and problem solving 
  • gain science credits in biology, anatomy, chemistry and physics
  • hone your academic skills for future studies 
  • experience learning in a science lab 
  • participate in lab teams and conduct science experiments – starting in your first semester 

Explore different careers in health sciences by connecting with experts in the health-care field and participating in pathways events. In addition, you will learn to analyze personal and professional situations from various perspectives to help develop a sense of personal and social responsibility as a citizen and allied health professional.

Sustainable Microgrid and Renewable Technology (SMART) Lab

Humber College and Siemens Canada have developed a Sustainable Microgrid and Renewable Technology (SMART) Lab that will be used to teach students about microgrids. The lab will also be used for future applied research projects and will allow the College to offer micro-credentials in the field of microgrids and renewable energy.

Founder and Executive Director, Trust 15

Marcia Brown is the Executive Director and Founder of Trust 15, a youth community support organization in her home community of Rexdale. Trained as an educator, Brown built Trust 15 by canvassing her neighbourhood with flyers and creating an after-school program for 15 girls at a local community church. Today, as head of the organization, she provides critical mentoring opportunities to hundreds of boys and girls and their families. Brown is celebrated and awarded as a community leader, activist and enabler, and is a resilient advocate for youth in need of self-confidence and self-esteem.

Jamil Jivani

Activist and Author

Jamil Jivani is a lawyer, activist, professor and author, whose work centres on issues impacting youth, and low-income families. He founded the Citizen Empowerment Project to empower underrepresented communities to engage with national legal and policy issues such as police carding and voter turnout. A Yale Law graduate, he was named the 2015 Young Lawyer of the Year by the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers. In 2018, Jivani authored Why Young Men: Rage, Race and the Crisis of Identity, a critically acclaimed book recounting his experiences and using them to open discussions around finding a solution to these issues.

Benefit from Workplace Integrated Learning opportunities in our hands-on science labs.  All students will participate in numerous Biology and Chemistry labs, conduct experiments, learn from lab manuals, write lab exams and practice lab safety – just like in the future workplace.

Humber students receive safety goggles, lab coats and lab requirements to meet Workplace Health & Safety Standards. The Pre-Health program at Humber is unique in offering numerous lab experiences for all Pre-Health students.

How To Become An Apprentice

Becoming an Apprentice

Find an employer willing to sponsor you as an apprentice.

Contact the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development to register as an apprentice.

Work with your employer approximately one year before attending Humber.

You may apply after February 1, however, post-February 1 applications will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis depending on the availability of the space in the program.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must meet all the requirements below in order to meet minimum program eligibility. Meeting minimum eligibility requirements does not guarantee an offer of admission. Admission decisions will be available via MyHumber, or by email and mail. Admission decisions will not be released by phone.

Admission selection is based on the following three requirements:

  • Academic

    To be eligible for admission, you must possess the following:

    • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent including these required courses:
      • Grade 12 English (ENG4C or ENG4U or equivalent)
      • Grade 12 Mathematics (MAP4C, MCT4C, MDM4U, MCB4U, MGA4U, MCV4U or MHF4U or equivalent)
      • Two Grade 11 or Grade 12 C, M or U courses in addition to those listed above

    or

    or

    Mature Applicants

    Diplomas and Certificates

    An applicant is considered a mature applicant if they have not completed secondary school or other postsecondary school, and will be 19 or older as of the first day of classes. Humber will invite you for testing to demonstrate that you meet all listed course requirements.

    Degrees

    An applicant is considered a mature applicant if they have not completed secondary school or attended postsecondary studies, and will be 21 or older as of the first day of classes. Mature applicants for degree programs will be required to meet course requirements at the U/M level or equivalent.

    College Transfer Applicants

    Diplomas and Certificates

    An applicant is considered a college transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a college-level credential. Humber may use a combination of secondary school and/or college courses and grades to determine program eligibility.

    Degrees

    An applicant is considered a college transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a college-level credential. Humber may use a combination of secondary school and/or college courses and grades to determine program eligibility. Applicants must have an overall minimum grade point average (GPA) of 65 per cent in the program. Applicants are required to disclose and provide academic transcripts for all course work completed at the postsecondary level.

    University Transfer Applicants

    Diplomas and Certificates

    An applicant is considered a university transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a university-level credential. Humber may use a combination of secondary school and/or university courses and grades to determine program eligibility.

    Degrees

    An applicant is considered a university transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a university-level credential. Humber may use a combination of secondary school and/or university courses and grades to determine program eligibility. Applicants are required to disclose and provide academic transcripts for all course work completed at the postsecondary level.

  • English Language Proficiency

    All applicants whose first language is not English must meet Humber’s English Language Proficiency Policy.

  • International Credit Evaluation

    Canadian citizens or permanent residents with international education are required to provide a credential evaluation. Note, for international High school education course by course evaluations, ICAS must be used. For international post-secondary education, a WES evaluation must be provided. In situations where you expect to apply for transfer credit, it is recommended that a course by course WES evaluation is completed.
