Impact of COVID-19 on the Mental Health of LGBTQ2S+ Youth in Canada

Abstract
This project examined the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental health of Canadian LGBTQ2S+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning, Two-Spirit, and other identities) youth. Using qualitative and quantitative analyses, we found that LGBTQ2S+ youth have shown increased mental health challenges and suicidal tendencies during the pandemic. Transgender youth have shown increases in suicide, anxiety, and depression due to the postponement/cancellation of transitioning procedures. Recommendations from these analyses include prioritizing surgery schedules for transgender youth, implementing mental health supports and increasing mental health care access for all LGBTQ2S+ youth.
