Abstract

In 1999, the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA) was introduced to establish a regulatory framework for protecting Canada’s Environment, and Transportation was identified as the key sector for greenhouse gas emissions in Canada. This project used an issue analysis method exploring the two major air pollutant emissions from the transportation sector: Carbon Monoxide (CO) and Nitrogen Oxide (NOx). Quantitative analysis was conducted using a dataset from Statistics Canada ranging from 1990-2019. Findings included the impact of CEPA on the emission of CO and NOx, and recommendations to control Co and NOx emissions in the transportation sector.
