Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic impacted the lives of Canadian children in unprecedented ways. This project aimed to assess how school closures and social isolation during lockdown impacted the socio-emotional development and educational achievement of children under eight in Canada, both immediately and long-term. Specifically, this research explored which children are disproportionately affected by learning loss and socioemotional challenges, compared Canada's response to international approaches, and addressed policy gaps for support systems. Recommendations from this project seek to mitigate against pandemic-related challenges and strategies for support recovery, as well as for emergency support protocol in the case of future disruptions.
