The Mental Decline in Secondary Online Schooling

Abstract

Our research explores the relationship between online learning and Ontario secondary students by focusing on gender and location biases, and current solutions. Our analysis shapes current and future student experiences by recommending restructuring online classes and mental health supports. Ontario's Ministry of Education can improve online schooling, including improving staff training, increasing accessibility for in-school supports, creating online social bonds, and providing more remote resources. Findings show females and those located in rural areas experience mental decline more compared to their counterparts. Current support offered to students include virtual mental health programs and published “toolkits” for individuals to refer to.
